Amei Star Tour 2009 Malaysia Concert

Oh..My...GOD!!! The show was a bomb!!! Rated 5 stars!!! IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!

I can't find the right words to say now..I'm still high and euphoric from it!! KYAAA~~~!!! I took loads of pictures of Amei but even before we reach the midpoint of the show, my cam went out of battery! Bummer!

Amei arrive at the stage in a curtained buggy. But there was no stone left unturned for the hawk-eyed fans. They started cheering and screaming for her. Talk about a powerful entrance! Eat your heart out, Batista! The show started on time. A few hours before the show, It was raining and i was petrified at the thought that the concert might be canceled! But thank The Lord, He held the rain back for almost 3 explosive hours! With only few costume changes, the show was set to rock the stadium down!

During the opening few songs, the fans passionate cheering and screaming made Amei so touched that she was unable to continue to sing at some point. The fans sang back to her and the show went on. With the fan's support, she went on giving us the time of our life!

During her first break, Amei said that the Malaysian fans are still as passionate as before and the cheering and singing was awesome. Before Amei went for the first change, she asked the fans to sing the chorus of 記得 for her to listen and, i had to admit, the whole atmosphere was so overwhelming that i had to fight hard not to cry! Imagine what Amei had to went through every time she sings! Then she went on saying that she wants to try to come and visit us every year at least once!! Dear God, please make this happen!! AMEN....

There was a healthy dose of her songs from 姊妹 to the classic 聴海 and on to the STAR album's 如果你也聽說. Then this is where the lighting on stage really brought out some flavor of the song! When the intro to 如果你也聽說 was played, the blue light, which was not visible before, lit up giving a raining effect. It was so awesome and it was a jaw dropping effect that i took a photo of that as well!

There was no guest artist this time around. Some say, the middle part of the concert was a bit "bored". But to me, just watching her in action was pure magical bliss. As a surprise for us, Amei sang Sheila Majid's Lagenda chorus . The whole stadium was surprised and thus, more screaming and cheering. There were more mixture of old and new songs. She must have done her homework researching on Malaysians cos she also covered a hit song from Taiwan based Malaysian Gary Chao's 背叛.

2 hours into the show, Amei introduced her team of performers. Introducing the lot individually, i recognized a few faces. From the likes of Mei (keyboardist), Keng Loon (pianist), Jamie Wilson (guitarist) to David (backup singer). These are the familiar faces which i knew performed with David Tao, Jacky Cheung and etc. Some are still new faces to ME. But i'm sure they are pretty much up there in their leagues too. Hey they must have something to be able to play for Amei!!! And that day was David's, the backup singer, birthday too. All of the fans sang happy birthday to him.

On with the show. Each one of them had to do a solo on their instruments/dance/vocal improvisation AND had to sing a line of chorus from 姊妹!!! Of them all, Jamie Wilson caught my attention the most. Those people there will agree with me. Not because he is a Malaysian or that i'm a guitarist too but his improvisation is simply electrifying! Keng Loon's singing was down right funny! But he's the maestro at the keys!

Towards the end of the show, Amei performed rock-ish songs. It was simply CRAZY!! Amei asked all of us to start jumping and dance with her with an energetic 三天三夜. And all hell broke loose. The whole stadium floor shook on beat!!! I was worried that the structure would collapse! But i jumped and dance and sang and waved my color stick thingy and scream and did everything written in the book of FANBOY FOR IDIOTS. Yes, i am.

The experience was so surreal that every time i close my eyes, the whole experience of the concert would replay itself like a possessed DVD player!! I only managed to sleep around 6.30am! The next morning when i wake up, i just had to go and checkout the pictures that i took. And yes, i did smile like an idiot while looking at the pictures. And no, the high and euphoria did not go away after a night's rest.

I gave Amei my first concert experience and i have no regrets. I still could not believe that she was so near. That we are breathing the same air...

I just simply love Amei!!!Excuse me while I go back to swoon over her photos….again.

Song Post #2 - Hey Baby

This song was very much written somewhere around CNY 2009. Its about how one feels when finally they get the girl/boy. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul for his ideas during the composition of the song. Paul, thanks for the verse melody!!! Without that i don't think I'll be able to kick off the whole song!

Hey Baby
曲:Joshua Lui 词:Winnie Yen
Crescendo Music 2009(C)

Hey Baby 我爱你
希望能在未来能和你 去共闯天际
是你赐我勇气
Hey Baby I Love You
但愿我们深信不疑 爱就是唯一
在一起 分享生活点滴

Hope you like the song! Please leave me your thoughts on this song.

Review #1 - Paul Au

Paul was one of the founding members of Crescendo Music. A group of people who loves music and performing music. CM is specially focused in unplugged music for cafe entertainments, wedding receptions, company functions and any other venues that needs live unplugged music. More on this performing group a few posts later.

When he came over to my house to let me have a listen, i was hooked to it. It was No.1 on my playlist for 4weeks in a row!! Not bad for a locally written song!

Now, let's get back to the song review. The song is filled with a kind of sad emotions. When you close your eyes, you could almost feel the heartache (...almost). The intro part, where the descending keys is coming in, sometimes still scares me. But i like how the acoustic sound of the upright was captured on track. A little bit to bright and sharp for my ears but i still like it. The verse still sounds a little bit like Eason Chen to me. However, the chromatic scale into the opening verse caught my attention. I guess that is what good music is made of. The chorus is really the impact of the song. i heard pain, anguish and regret. I'm not sure whether that is the meaning of the chorus since i can't read Chinese that well yet. I felt that the repeating chorus at the end just right after the every instrument was taking rest should sound nicer if they raise the key by 1/2 step. But that's just me.

This track can be found on BYE-CD on sale right now. This is the only song that caught my ears. But who knows, i might do a review on the rest too! Till then, I'm signing off~

Love,
JL

Song Post #1 - 18 Candles

This post actually can be found on my Friendster blog. I figured since i'm gonna do this blog might as well i post it here too. The track was recorded everything from instrument (guitar & keyboard) straight into PC. I'm too broke to invest on a proper set of mixer. Oh yeah, the vocals (which i did horribly) was done on a normal home PC with the factory PC microphone. So i beg your pardon for a lousy job!!! Hey, a thousand screaming fans starts with the first booing, right?

Without further ado, here's the post:

18 Candles
Music: Joshua Lui Lyrics: Crescendo Crew
Crescendo Music 2008(C)

Happy Birthday to you my dear friend
正式见面那一天 注定我们友情不改变
不管 未来的路有多长多远
我们永远 会陪在你身边
Happy Birthday to you my dear friend
未来的路不再远 你心中梦想一定实现
当你回想 我们一切情节
所有快乐 就会在你身边

This song was originally written for Lil Joans A.K.A. Sotong as her birthday present. This song will be sent to some label/ publishing company to see if they would want this song. If all else fails….it fails! hahahaha!!! Probably i’d go indie on this.

This is the road that i have chosen and let this be the first step for all of us in the Crew. A special thanks to ALL Crescendo Crew members for the contribution to this song.

A special mention to Jien Wei (for the verse melody), Kenji (for helping me out with the lyrics arrangements), for the lyrics contributions - Winnie (for the second half of the chorus), Peggie, Sandy (and also helping to pinyin out the words for me, enabling me to sing for the initial demo.) Hugo and Paul. If i left out any names, please forgive me as it has been such a long time and my memory is weakening along with age. T.T

Also thanks to Sandy and Peggie for taking time out to record a female version of the song. Not to forget those who encouraged me on this project. Thanks!!

A link with the song’s excerpt will be up once “The Twins” finish recording it. So keep an eye out here!!!

Hope you like what you hear!

Lots of love,
JL

The first post!!! LOL

Welcome to my first Musically Yours posting!

This is where I'll be posting my journey into the music world. From time to time, i will be posting my new demo songs for you to help me evaluate and hopefully this will be the journal of my trip there. Besides my own stuffs, i will also be reviewing local stuffs as i think that there are a lot of local/oversea unsigned aspiring artists that need such exposures! So, keep a tab here as i will try my very best to post as frequent as possible!

Previously i've written a bunch of materials but as at now i think i'm quite happy with 2 such songs that i've written. Both are sung in Mandarin as i've been playing guitar/singing in local cafes under CRESCENDO MUSIC CREW (CMC). i'll be posting it in a not so distant future!

The first i've written was a song that was a birthday song for a singing partner of mine. Entitled 18 Candles. Yeah, you guessed it...its for her 18th birthday! LOL!! I've sung this song for the patrons that are celebrating their birthdays where i was singing. The song's lyrics was co-written with the rest of the Crew's wishes for the birthday girl(which we twisted and turn into coherent lyrics, i think!).

The second song that i am quite happy with is entitled Hey Baby. This song was written when i first started dating not so long ago. Coincidentally, my another CMC partner was also feeling the same kinda "floatiness" so after i came up with the melody and stuff, she assisted in the lyrical department.

I'll be posting the lyrics in the next posting. So keep an eye out for it!

Thats it for now and i'll see you very soon!!!
